I am nearing the end of my year’s industrial placement (work experience) that I had decided to do as part of my degree in Computer Science.
I am working within the Human Resources department at the University of Hertfordshire (the same university where I am completing my degree). The HR department consists of approximately 25 employees, and of those myself and another student placement (Jerome Tan) and our manager form the HR IT Team. It is our duty to support all workstations, programs and peripherals used within the department.
Furthermore, it is my job to ensure that the Human Resources website is up to date and running smoothly. A task of mine was to to reorganise the website by removing repetitive data and also the removal of old unwanted content. I also changed some aspects of the structure which helped to make finding content easier and more user friendly.
Another challenging task was for Jerome and me to completely recode the Job Seekers website using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). We made the code neat and easy to manage, as previously it was not organised in an appropriate way.
I have approximately one week left on my placement contract and I am pleased that I have been offered an extension which will see me working here part-time as I complete my degree.
